Stafford County Sheriff’s Office makes arrest in hit and run 1 month later
STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Stafford County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) deputies arrested a man who was involved in a hit and run over a month ago.
On Nov. 1 at around 10:14 p.m., the driver of a Volkswagen Jetta GLI hit two pedestrians, who had a shopping cart on Mine Road near Greenspring Drive.
The driver left the scene and did not stop to check on the injured pedestrians.
One pedestrian was taken to the hospital in an ambulance and discharged a few days later. The other pedestrian was flown to the hospital in a helicopter with life-threatening injuries.
That pedestrian is expected to recover but is still in a rehabilitation facility.
SCSO said parts of the driver’s car were found at the scene of the crash and deputies were able to pinpoint the suspected car to a storage lot in Spotsylvania County with the help of the National Insurance Crime Bureau.
The car was seized on Nov. 26 and additional evidence linked the car to the hit-and-run.
On Monday, deputies and officers from the Prince William County Police Department arrested Nicolas Hartman, 26, of Gainesville.
He was charged with two counts of felony hit and run and one count of false pretenses related to the insurance claim.
