Doctor Charged in Pill Mill Operation
The National Insurance Crime Bureau helped out on this case involving a Philadelphia doctor, William J. O'Brien, who allegedly falsified medical records to his so-called patients. These patients then could obtain prescriptions for a fee without undergoing a physical examination or treatment by O'Brien.
According to WPVI
O'Brien typically charged customers $250 cash for the first appointment to buy prescriptions and $200 for each appointment to obtain refills.O'Brien allegedly falsified medical records to make it look as though customers had received physical examinations and medical treatment from him when they had not.
It is further alleged that O'Brien was willing to exchange favors for higher doses of narcotics.
If convicted, O'Brien faces 20 years or more in prison.
